Rebecca is a critically acclaimed artist, working in sculpture and costume. Her exhibitions and installations have reached international audiences, and she has pieces archived in the Victoria & Albert Museum and London and the National Circus Archive.

Rebecca Truman’s four decades as an arts professional include a rare combination of visionary thinking and hands-on creative expertise.

Rebecca Truman is a highly skilled creative mentor, with an exceptional track record that encompasses; founding and directing her own international performance company, teaching and lecturing in sculpture and special effects, writing and publishing her autobiography “Aerialist”; and she is a NESTA fellow. This unique range of experience enables her to respond to challenges with creative solutions and practical plans.

Rebecca is an experienced life caster and mould maker. She learned these skills at Madame Tussauds Studios and has spent two decades refining them. Her sculptural works have been commissioned and exhibited nationally, including the V and A museum, Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, Bradford, Weston Park Museum, Sheffield and the National Circus Archive.

She has recently extended her practice into glass casting, with support from Arts Council England. This builds on her passion for moving beyond the bounds of conventional life casting, to incorporate texture, colour, natural elements, found materials, metals and papier mache.

Rebecca’s costume designs are unique, vibrantly extravagant pieces, incorporating textures, light-reflecting materials and sculptural elements.

Rebecca has designed extensively for theatre, circus and cabaret. Commissions include Moscow State Circus, the Millenium Dome, Circus 250, Irregular Arts and Albatross Theatre. This work has evolved from the designs she innovated for her ground-breaking all-female aerial theatre company, Skinning the Cat, who had an international reputation for characterisation through costume design. Through this experience she has developed work that not only makes a visual impact, but also adapts to the demands of physical performance.

Rebecca's aerial rig designs become characters in the show at the heart of the performance. She combines technical challenges with her background in theatrical set design. The magical show Enchantress was performed on a silver tree structure, Rubicon was performed on a Gaudi Esque double framed rig, Newark Castle site specific was a castle rig. Commissions include the Millenium Domes portable rig on wheels, the aerial ship for Albatross, free standing rig for Arabesque and the arch rig for Urban Angels in the Left Bank-Leeds.
